Let e=price of eggs
Let b=Price of bacon
If two eggs with bacon costs $1.35
2e+b=1.35
If one egg with bacon costs $.90
e+b=.90
take both of these equations and subtract them:
2e+b=1.35
- e+b=.90
subtract the like characters from like characters:
(2e-e) = e, (b-b)= 0, (1.35-.90) = .45
So your combined equation (which unsimplified looks like (2e-e)+(b-b)=(1.35-.90)
is now e=.45
substitute this back into either of the original equations
e+b=.90
.45+b=.90
subtract .45 from both sides to get your answer:
b=.45
The price of bacon alone is 45 cents.
