A part of monthly hostel charges is fixed and the remaining depend on the number of the days one has taken food in the mess. when a student A takes food for 20 days she has to pay Rs. 1000 as hostel charges where as a student B who takes food for 26 days , pay rs 1180 as hostel charges. find the fixed charges and the cost of food perday

when a student A takes food for 20 days she has to pay Rs. 1000 as hostel charges
where as a student B who takes food for 26 days , pay rs 1180 as hostel charges.
find the fixed charges and the cost of food perday

A Equation:
fixed + 20x = 1000
---
B Equation:
fixed + 26x = 1180
------------------------
Subtract and solve for "x"
6x = 180
x = 30 per day (daily cost for food)
---
Solve for "fixed":
f + 20x = 1000
f + 20*30 = 1000
f + 600 = 1000
fixed cost = 400
