The sum of two numbers is 14. If twice the smaller number is increased by three times larger, the result is 36. Find the numbers.
--------
Equations:
x+y = 14
2x+3y = 36
---------------
Multiply thru the 1st eq. by 2:
2x+2y = 28
2x+3y = 36
-------------
Subtract and solve for "y":
y = 8
------------
Solve for "x":
x+y = 14
x + 8 = 14
x = 6
