 4x + 3(36-x) = 124

      x = 16, the number of 4-legged tables.  



CHECKING our Answer*** there are 20  3-legged (36-16)

 4*16 + 3*20 = 64 + 60 = 124 legs

 A furniture dealer has 36 tables. Some tables have 4 legs and some have 3 legs, but she doesn't know how many of each kind there are. She has counted 124 legs in total. How many 4 legged tables are there?

Tables Eq: f + t = 36 

Legs Eq:: 4f +3t = 124

Multiply thru Tables Eq by 3 to get:

3f + 3t = 3*36

4f + 3t = 124

Subtract and solve for "f":

f = 16 (# of 4 legged tables)
