Let x and c represent speed in still water and the speed of the current
Question states*** Note: rate = D/t
x + c = 12mph (24mi/2hr)
x - c = 8mph (24mi/3hr)
2x = 20mph
x = 10mph, speed in still water and the speed of the current is 2mph
