Note: John and Pat will be driving the same amount of time
Let x represent the distance Jon travels, then (440mi-x) will be Pat's distance.

Cross mulitply to solve for x
28x = 60(440-x)
28x = 60*440 - 60x
88x = 60*440
x = 60*440/88
x = 300mi, distance Jon travels
300mi/60mph = 5hrs, the time it took them to meet
CHECKING OUR ANSWER
60MPH*5HR + 28MPH*5HR = 300MI + 140MI = 440MI
