Hi,
*Note: Whenever possible, use 'only one variable' in the set up
Let x represent the number of cars Hugh sells. Then 5x is the number Joe sells
x + 5x = 300
6x = 300
x = 50 , the number Hugh sells. Joe sells 250 (5*50)
