there are 10 animals in one cage. Including rabbits and chickens. If there are 28 feet in the cage, How many chickens and rabbits are there in the cage?
-------
Equations:
r + c = 10
4r+2c = 28
---------------
Multiply thru the 1st equation by 2 to get:
---
2r + 2c = 20
4r + 2c = 28
----------------
Subtract 1st from 2nd and solve for "r":
2r = 8
r = 4 (# of rabbits)
------
Since r+c = 10, c = 6 (# of chickens)
