Question 316622: A coffee merchant has two types of coffee beans, one selling for $3 per pound and the other selling for $5 per pound. The beans are to be mixed to provide 100 lb of a mixture selling for $4.18 per pound. How much of each type of coffee bean should be used to form 100 lb of the mixture?
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5x+3(100-x)=4.18*100
5x+300-3x=418
5x-3x=418-300
2x=118
x=118/2
x=59 pounds of $5 coffee.
100-59=41 pounds of $3 coffee.
Proof:
5*59+3*41=4.18*100
295+123=418
418=418
