(a-b) = the difference between their ages
therefore
5(b - (a-b)) = a
Remove the inner bracket
5(b - a + b) = a
5(2b-a) = a
10b - 5a = a
10b = a + 5a
10b = 6a
b = a
b = .6a

a + b = 64
replace b with .6a
a + .6a = 64
1.6a = 64

a = 40 yrs is a's age
