Let one number be x and the other be y
x = 2y + 10 ... equation 1
x + y = 70 ... equation 2
put equation 1 into equation 2
(2y + 10) + y = 70
3y = 70 - 10
3y = 60
y = 60/3
y = 20
x = 2(20) + 10 = 40 + 10 = 50
Answer: the numbers are 50 and 20
