Question 28041: I cannot seem to figure out how to set this problem up.
Jamil has eight times as many dimes as has nickles, and the value of the dimes is $3.75 more than the value of the nickels. Please help, I have no idea where to start.
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let number of nickels be "x"
Then number of dimes is "8x"
Value of nickels is 5x cents
Value of dimes is 10(8x)=80x cents
EQUATION:
Value of dimes =Value of nickels +375
80x = 5x+375
75x = 375
x = 5 (number of nickels)
8x=40 (number of dimes)
