consider the standard form of quadratic equation y=ax^2+bx+c. how would you investigate the effect of the "c" on the location and/or shape of the parabola?
----------------
Notice that the equation is a statement about "y".
It tells you where y is when x has certain values.
----
If the c were not there y would equal ax^2+bx
---
But when c is there y = ax^2+bx + c
---
So, if c is positive, y is higher by "c".
That means all the points of the graph are raised.
---
And, if c is negative, y is lower by "c".
That means all the points of the graph are lowered.
========================================
So, c determines the vertical shift of the graph.
