Question 278500: Could someone tell me how to set up this word problem please.
The sum of three numbers is 88. The first number is 14 less than the second number. The sum of the second and third number is 64. Find the three numbers.
I was thinking something like this but of course it did not work:
x-14+y+z=88 and y-z=64. Please help me set up this problem! Thanks!
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you got confused with addition (sum) and subtraction (difference)
x=y-14
y+z=64
x+y+z=88
x+64=88
x=24
x=y-14
24=y-14
38=y
38+z=64
z=64-38
z=26
x=24
y=38
z=26
