Let x = the number
Let 1/x = its reciprocal
Then x + 1/x = 10/3
Multiply all terms by the LCD which is 3x. This is done to remove all fractions. It's easier working without fractions.
3x^2 + 3 = 10x
Subtract 10x from both sides and then equate everything to zero.
3x^2 - 10x + 3 = 0
This is now a quadratic equation.
