A force is applied to a spring in order to compress it. The distance the spring is compressed from it's natural length is denoted by x, and the force applied varies directly as x. If a force of 20n compresses the spring by 0.8m, then what force is required to compress the spring by 1.4m?

It's a direct variation, the harder you push the more the spring is compressed.
20/0.8 = f/1.4
Cross multiply
0.8f = 20*1.4 = 28
f = 28/0.8
f = 35 newtons
