If 6 times a number is decreased by 5, the result is 7 more than the sum of 3 times the number and 13. what is the number?
let the number be x
6 times a number is 6x
this is decreased by 5 meaning 6x-5 ( first part of the equation)
number plus 13 is x+13
3times the number plus 13
= 3(x+13)
seven more than 3(x+13)
3(x+13) +7
6x-5 = 3(x+13)+7
6x-5 = 3x +39 +7
6x-3x= 39+7+5
3x= 51
x= 17
