A student works two part-time jobs.
He earns $8.00 an hour working at the college library and $15.00 and hour for construction work.
To save time for study, be limits his work to 25 hours a week.
If he enjoys the work at the library more, how many hours can he work at the library and still earn at $300 a week.
:
Let x = no. of hrs at the library
then
(25-x) = no. of hrs on construction
:
8x + 15(25-x) => 300
8x + 375 - 15x => 300
8x - 15x => 300 - 375
-7x => -75
We need x to be positive, multiply by -1, this reverses the inequality sign
7x =< 75
x =<
x =< 10.7 hr
We can say that he can work 10 hrs a day at the library and still exceed $300
:
:
See if that is true
8(10) + 15(15) =
80 + 225 = $305
