Question 266245: If 3x^2-12x+14=3(x+p)^2+q, what are the values of p and q?
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20059) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Since it must be identically true regardless of the value of x,
the easy way is to substitute any two values of x and solve the
resulting system:
Substitute x=0
Substitute x=1
So we have this system of equations:
Solve both for q:
Set their right sides equal and solve
Simplify and solve this and you'll get
one solution , then substitute
that into and get
