Let x = no. of people in the choir
Let r = no. of people in each row (same both nights)
:
x - 1 = 6r; 2nd night
x -12 = 5r; 1st night
-------------------------subtraction eliminates x, find r
0 + 11 = r
11 people in each row both nights

x - 12 = 5(11)
x = 55 + 12
x = 67 people in the choir
