The sum of two numbers is 54, and their difference is nine more than the smaller number. Find the numbers.
Let thesmaller number be x
and the other number be y
x+y =54
y-x = x+9
y-2x=9
x+y =54-----1
y-2x=9-------2
subtract 2 from 1 and solve
3x= 45
x=15
y= 54-15= 39
The numbers are 15 and 39
