Question 25233: Norbert sold 23 books on Thursday for a curtain price. On Friday, ha sold 35 of the same books, but he charged $0.50 less per book. If he made $490.00 in total, hom much did the book sell for each day??
Answer by elima(1433) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the amount the books on Thursday sold;
x-.5=the books on friday sold.
equation would be;
23x+35(x-.50)=490
distribute the 35;
23x+35x-17.5=490
Add 17.5 to each side, and add like terms;
58x=490+17.5
58x=507.5
Divide each side by 58;
x=8.75
So on Thursday the books were sold for $8.75; so Friday;
8.75-.5=8.25
They were sold for $8.25 on Friday
Hope you understand
=)
