Hello,
This sort of problem can be set up as a proportion. This is what it will look like:
3/$1.50=x/$5.00 Now we solve for x by multiplying both sides by $5.00.
15/1.5=x The fraction can be reduced down to:
10=x There we go, the answer is 10 pounds can be bought for $5.00
