Question 222626: I am trying to translate this word problem into an equation so I can solve. The UCLA Bruins scored 16 fewer points than the Florida Gators. Together, both teams scored a total of 130 points. How many points did the Florida Gators score during the game? This is what I have started with -16-3+X=130 is this right? Or is it all wrong?
Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if the Gators scored X, then the Bruins scored X-16

together they scored 130

X + X-16 = 130 ___ 2X - 16 = 130 ___ 2X = 156 ___ X = 78
