Question 20709: Two pipes together can fill a reservoir in 6 hours 40 minutes. Find the time each alone will take to fill the reservoir if one of the pipes can fill it in 3 hours less than the other. Please help!
Answer by Paul(988)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Convert into minutes 6h40 = 400min
3h = 180min
Let the unknown be x
x+(x-180)=400
2x-180=400
2x-180+180=400+180
2x=580

x=290, 290-180=110
Hence one pipe fills a reservoir in 290min while the other fills it in 110min
