Question 191071: Hi I need help with these 2 problems please not sure if I have them in the right catagory
1).Given the following equation, 4x – 2y = 12; solve for y.
2).Verify that the ordered pair (3, -3) is a solution to the equation
3x + 4y = -3

1).Given the following equation, 4x – 2y = 12; solve for y.
4x – 2y = 12
2x - y = 6
-y = 6-2x
y = 2x - 6
-------------------
2).Verify that the ordered pair (3, -3) is a solution to the equation
3x + 4y = -3
Sub 3 for x and -3 for y.
3*3 + 4*(-3) =? -3
9 - 12 = -3
So it is a solution.

1) 4x – 2y = 12 -----> to Slope-Intercept Form ,

Move "y" to the right and the constant 12 to the left: (change signs)
--->
, reduceed to:

* Above Eqn has y-Interecept of (0,-6) and slope of 2.

2) Verify that the ordered pair (3, -3) is a solution to the equation
3x + 4y = -3

Let fy=0:

---->
, X-Intercept

Let fx=o:

---->
, Y-Intercept

Via Slope-Intercept Form,

---->

We see the graph:
---->

*The Line passing thru point (3,-3)

Subst. to the Eqn:

, Point (3,-3) is a solution
