x = integer 1
y = integer 2
x = 2y
x + y = 96
we will use substitution to solve this
x + y = 96
2y + y = 96
3y = 96
3y/3 = 96/3
1y = 32
now lets go back and substitute y=32 to find x
x = 2y
x = 2(32)
y = 64
answer: smaller number = 32 and larger number = 64
check: 32+64=96 correct
2(32)=64 correct
