A prescription calls for a decongestant containing 1.1% pseudoephedrine HCI. How much of each should be used to produce 4 ounces of a 1.1% solution???? This question is from textbook

active + active = active ingredient
0.008x + 0.014(4-x) = 0.011*4 ounces
Multiply thru by 1000 to get:
8x + 14(4-x) = 44
8x + 56 - 14x = 44
-6x = -12
x = 2 oz (amt of 0.8% HCI in the mixture)
4-2= 2 oz (amt of 1.1% HCI in the mixture)

Since 1.1% is the average of 0.8 and 1.4, it'll be half of each.
2 ounces of 1.4% and 1 ounces of 0.8%
Will that do? Or do you need a detailed solution.
