selling tickets for a play, 4 dollars for student 6 dollars for general. you sell 525 tickets and collect $2876. how many types of tickets did you sell.
-----------------------------
Let # of student tickets sold be "x" ; Value of these is 4x dollars.
--------------------
# of general tickets sold is "525-x" ; Value is 6(525-x)= 3150-6x dollars
---------------------
EQUATION:
value + value = 2876 dollars
4x + 3150-6x = 2876
-2x = -274
x = 137 (# of student tickets sold)
525-x = 388 (# of general tickets sold)
