Five times the smaller of two numbers is equal to twice the larger. When the larger is doubled, it exceeds their original sum by 9. Find the numbers.
-------------------------
Let smaller be "x" ; Let larger be "y".
EQUATIONS:
5x=2y
2y=x+y+9
------------
Rearrange:
y = (5/2)x
y = x+9
-----------
x+9 = (5/2)x
(3/2)x=9
x = 6
--------------
y = x+9 = 15
