Question 12221: Help: I would appreciate any assistance in these two problems I am loss on how to do these.
To pass a course with a B grade, a student must have an average of 80 or greater. A student's grades on three tests are 78, 80, and 90. Set up and solve an inequality to find what score the student must get on the next test to get a B average or better.
An employment agency specializing in temporary construction help pays heavy equipment operators $129 per day and general laborers $92 per day. On a particular day 43 people were hired and the total payroll was $4474.
Thank you,
Pat
Answer by longjonsilver(2297) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let next test score = x
So average of the 4 tests will be (78+80+90+x)/4 which is (248+x)/4.
This has to be greater than 80 for a B-grade, so
(248+x)/4 >= 80 is the inequality and is solved as follows...
248+x >= 80*4
248+x >= 320
x >= 320 - 248
x >= 72
