Question 1198192: You are planning an awards banquet and need to rent tables to seat 180 people. There are two table sizes available. Small tables seat 6 people, and large tables seat 10 people. The equation 6x+10y=180 models this situation, where x is the number of small tables and y is the number of large tables. The number of people attending the banquet increased by 25%. Your friend claims that not all of the tables will be completely filled. Is your friend correct?

y will not be a whole number for any whole number of x.
The TENTHS place for y will always have either 1 or 3 or 5 or 7 or 9.

Hello, the problem claims/states that equation 6x + 10y = 180 models the situation for 180 attendees.

But when the number of people attending the banquet increased by 25%, this equation does not work more, right ?

At least, the problem says nothing about it . . .

If so, then what do you ask us, the tutors, about ?

In my opinion. different parts of this post are not consistent each with the other.

In whole, for me, the problem looks like as if somebody tries to sell me bad goods . . .
