Question 1195704: The height of a water balloon that is launched across a field is modeled by the equation
h=-0.1x^2+ 2.4x+8.1 where h is the height in meters, and x is the horizontal distance from the
launch point. How far has the balloon traveled when it is 10 meters above the ground?

.

To find the horizontal distance, solve the quadratic equation

        -0.1x^2 + 2.4x + 1.8 = 10,

which is in standard form

        -0.1x^ + 2.4x - 8.2 = 0.

Both roots are good: the smaller root is for ascending trajectory; the larger root for descending trajectory.
