Question 1186393: Three boys, Adam, Brent and Clive had the same number of notes. Adam
and Brent each had a mixed of two-dollar and five-dollar notes. Adam had
8 two-dollar notes while Brent had 15 two-dollar notes. Clive had only five-
dollar notes.
a) Of the three boys, who had the least amount of money?
b) How much more does Adam have than Brent?
c) Brent used all his $5 notes to buy a bag. He then had $110 less than
Clive. How many five-dollar notes does Clive have?
Answer by greenestamps(13203) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) Since they each have the same number of notes, the boy with the smallest number of $5 notes, or the largest number of $2 notes, has the least amount of money.
ANSWER: Brent
b) Adam has 7 more $5 notes than Brent and 7 fewer $2 notes. The difference in value between 7 $5 notes and 7 $2 notes is $35-$14 = $21.
ANSWER: $21
c) He has only his $2 notes left, and he has 15 of them, so he has $30 left. That $30 is $110 less than what Clive has, so Clive has $30+$110 = $140. The number of $5 notes Clive has is $140/$5 = 28.
ANSWER: 28
