Question 1180163: In 1800 the population of a midwest city was 25,000. By 1840 it had grown to 27,000. Find an equation relating time and population. If the population continues to grow at the same rate, what will the population be in 1854? Give your answer to the nearest whole number.
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
25000=Aob^t, where t=0 at 1800
Ao=25000
27000=25000b^40
so 1.08=b^40
b= 1.08^(1/40)=1.001926
in 1854, t=54
so 1.08^54=1.10949, Without rounding, multiply that by 25000
=27,737 to nearest person.
Can check by multiplying 27000*1.001926^14, to go from 1840 to 1854.
