Question 1178108: Suppose the growth of population during 1980 to 2008 can be approximated by an equation of the form y=mx+b, where x is the number of years since 1980 and y is the population measured in millions. Find equation if two ordered pairs that satisfy it are (0,230)and(10,247) answer in slope-intercept form
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x1 y1 x2 y2
0 230 10 247
slope m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
( 247 - 230 )/( 10 - 0 )
( 17 / 10 )
m= 17/10
Plug value of the slope and point ( 0 , 230 ) in
Y = m x + b
230.00 = 0 + b
b= 230.00 - 0
b= 230
So the equation will be
Y = 17/10 x + 230
