The language used in the statement of the problem is atrocious.
It says Benny helped Jerry one day; but then it says they finished the job together in 6 days. That is self-contradictory.
If your post is your own restatement of the problem, then re-post, presenting the real problem.
If it came directly from a textbook, then... well, I hope the author isn't teaching both math and English.
