A concert was attended by x adults and y children.
Each of the y children paid $3 which was 3/4 of what each of the adults paid.
Given that the total sum collected for the total sum for admission was $1200.
let a = no. of adults, let c = no. of children
1. Calculate the amount each adult paid?
a = 3
3a = 4(3)
3a = 12
a = 12/3
a = $4 is adult amt
:
2. find an equation connecting X and Y?
4a + 3c = 1200, the total amt for tickets
Given further that the number of children attending the concert was 1/3 of the total number of adults.
c = a
Find the total number of people who attended the concert.
Replace c with a in the equation: 4a + 3c = 1200
4a + 3a = 1200
Cancel the 3
4a + 1a = 1200
5a = 1200
a = 1200/5
a = 240 adults
then
*240 = 80 children
therefore
240 + 80 = 320 people at the concert
:
:
Confirm this, find the total amt spent for tickets
4(240) + 3(80) =
960 + 240 = 1200

The condition is written as pathetically as an opera.
