Hi,
You have a total $50 to spend on cold cuts for a party. Ham costs $5.00 per pound and turkey costs $4.00 per pound.
Define the variables.
x = the number of pounds of turkey , y = the number of pounds of ham
Write an equation in standard form.
4x + 5y = $50
Determine the x- and y- intercepts. Show work.
x-intercept (y = 0) x = 12.5lb, y-intercept (x = 0) y = 10lb
Interpret the x- and y- intercepts in the context of the problem.
1) Can feed more people, the more turkey that is purchased with the budget.
2) The most lbs of meet is purchased by purchasing all turkey.
