But if a formal solution is not required, you can get some good mental exercise by solving the problem informally, using logical reasoning and simple arithmetic.


The difference between the hourly rates is $45-$35 = $10.

The $30 flat fee from one company is the equivalent of $30/$10 = 3 hours.


So the cost will be the same from both companies if the job takes 3 hours.
