Question 1166722: A store owner wants to place an ad. The local newspaper charges a fee of $650 plus $75 per week to run an ad in the print paper. An online paper charges $150 per week. How many weeks will it take for the total cost of the ad in the print newspaper to be less than the total cost of the ad in the online newspaper?
Answer by ikleyn(52847)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

    650 + 75*w < 150*w,

where w is the number of weeks. Solve this equation

    650 < 150w - 75w

    650 < 75w

     w < 650/75 = 8.666.

The problem wants you to find the maximum integer value of " w ", when inequality (1) is still valid.

So, you round the value of 8.666 to maximal lesser integer, which is 8.

ANSWER. During 8 weeks, the print ad costs less than online ad.
