Let x be the number of hours under the question.


Thomas earned  4x + 120 dollars.

Marie earned   12x dollars.


So, you can write this equation

    4x + 120 = 12x.


Simplify and find x

    120 = 12x - 4x

    120 =   8x

      x =   120/8 = 15.


ANSWER.  Thomas and Marie did work 15 hours each.
