if vender sold a combined total of 184 sodas and hot dogs, we have
x%2By=184.........eq.1
if the number of sodas sold was 50+more than the number of hot dogs sold, we have
x=y%2B50.....eq.2-> substitute in eq.1
y%2B50%2By=184.........eq.1
2y=184-50
2y=134
y=134%2F2
y=67

x=y%2B50.....eq.2-> substitute y
x=67%2B50
x=117
the number of sodas sold is 117 and the number of hot dogs sold is 67
