Let " h " be the price of hamburgers per pound, and

let " s " be the price of sugar      per pound.


Then from the condition you have these two equations in 2 unknowns


    4h + 3s = 230   cents     (1)

    2h - 5s =  50   cents     (2)


Multiply equation (2) by 2 (both sides) and then subtract it from equation (1). You will get


        13s = 230 - 2*50 = 130;


hence,    s              = 130/13 = 10.


Thus one pound of sugar costs 10 cents, or $0.1.


Then from equation (2),  h =  =  =  = 50 cents.


ANSWER.  The price for hamburgers is 50 cents per pound; for sugar 10 cents per pound.
