Question 113709: A contractor uses 42 workers on a job. For every 2 electricians he needs 5 carpenters. What is the total number of carpenters that he has employed on the job?
Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2+5=7 MAKES UP A TEAM OF ELECTRICIANS PLUS CARPENTERS.
SINCE HIS CREW HAS 42 WORKERS HE HAS 42/7=6 TEAMS.
EACH TEAM HAS 5 CARPENTERS.
6*5=30 CARPENTERS ARE NEEDED.
HE ALSO HAS 2 ELECTRICIANS PER TEAM OR 6*2=12 ELECTRICIANS ARE NEEDED.
30+12=42 THE TOTAL NUMBER OF WORKERS.
