.
The literal translation of the condition is THIS equation

    2*(x+10) - 8 = 2*(-x)

Solve it step by step:

    2x + 20 - 8 = -2x

    2x + 12 + 2x = 0

    4x = -12

    x =  = -3.

Check.   2*((-3) + 10) - 8 = 2*7 - 8 = 14 - 8 = 6.

         From the other side, 2(-(-3)) = 6,  also.     ! Correct !

ANSWER.  The number is -3.

Solved and checked.
