we have two equations in two unknowns
:
1) 8x+3y = 86
:
2) 12x+6y = 132
:
solve equation 2 for y
:
subtract 12x from both sides of =
:
6y = 132-12x
:
divide both sides of = by 6
:
y = 22-2x
:
substitute for y in equation 1
:
8x+3(22-2x) = 86
:
8x+66-6x = 86
:
2x = 20
:
x = 10
:
y = 22-2(10)
:
y = 22-20 = 2
