Lenlen is 2years younger than her brother.
L = b - 2
three times lenlen's age is less than four times her brothers age diminished by twelve.
3L < 4b - 12
Replace L with (b-2)
3(b-2) < 4b - 12
3b - 6 < 4b - 12
3b - 4b < -12 + 6
-b < -6
multiply by -1, this reverses the inequality sign
b > 6
:
L = b - 2
L > 6 - 2
L > 4
:
find the least possible age of lenlen: 5 yrs old
:
:
Check this. b = 7 (two more than L)
"three times lenlen's age is less than four times her brothers age diminished by twelve"
3(5) < 4(7) - 12
15 < 28 - 12
15 < 16; true!
