In 6 years (x value)
what is dependent (y-axis) is chicken eaten.
That went up 3 pounds in 6 years or 0.5 pound a year
slope is therefore 0.5
point slope formula y-y1=m(x-x1) m slope, (x1, y1) point and we have (2004, 57) and (2010, 60)
y-57=(0.5)(x-2004)
y=0.5x-1002+57
y=0.5x-945, where x is the year
OR
make it years since 2000, so (4, 57) and (10, 60)
y-57=0.5(x-4)
y=0.5x+55
m is 0.5 and represents the increase in chicken eaten per pound per person per year.
