Question 1106897: Samantha’s parents give her $10 per week. For each chore that she does not complete, she must repay her parents $1. Which graph models Samantha’s allowance?
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
her net allowance is 10 dollars a week minus 1 dollar times the number of chores she does not complete.
the formula to use is y = 10 - x.
y represents the money she gets each week.
if the money she gets for a particular week is less than 0, that means she ows back that amount.
the following graph shows the relationship between the money she gets or loses in relationship to the number of chores she missed for that week.
the graph shows that:
if she misses 0 choress, she gets the full 10 dollars.
if she misses 5 chores, she gets 5 dollars.
if she missed 10 chores, she gets nothing.
if she misses 15 chores, she owes 5 dollars.
y arepresents the money she gets.
x represents the number of chores she missed.
the coordinate points shown are in (x,y) format.
for example, the coordinate point for missing 5 chores is (5,5).
that means she missed 5 chores and therefore only gets 10 - 5 = 5 dollars.
for another example, the coordinate point for missing 15 chores is (15,-5).
that means she missed 15 chores and therefore owes her parents 5 dollars.
this will presumably be taken out of her allowance from the following weeks at some rate determined by the agreement between her parents and her.
if her allowance was based on her getting a dollar for every chore she completes, then her allowance would be 15 dollars a week if she had 15 chores, and she would get nothing if she didn't complete all of them.
her allowance and the number of chores she completes each week is all based on the agreement between her and her parents.
for example, another arrangement might be that she gets 5 dollars a week for doing nothing plus a dollar for every chore that she completes.
that would be a different type of graph that might look like this:
now it's not the number of chores she missed, but the number of chores she completes that determines her allowance.
if she completes 0 chores, she gets 5 dollars.
if she completes 5 chores, she gets 10 collars,
etc.
